Curriculum Statement – Up Holland High School
At Up Holland High School, our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and carefully designed to ensure that all students, regardless of background, starting point or need, achieve well and are fully prepared for life beyond school.
Our curriculum is designed to:
-
Raise aspirations and promote social mobility by removing barriers to learning and maintaining high expectations for all students, particularly those who are disadvantaged or have SEND.
-
Provide powerful knowledge and skills, carefully sequenced from Years 7 to 11, building on prior learning and revisiting key concepts and vocabulary to secure deep understanding and long-term learning.
-
Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum at Key Stage 3, ensuring strong foundations and informed choices, followed by a wide range of academic, vocational and personalised pathways at Key Stage 4.
-
Embed literacy, reading, numeracy and oracy across all subjects so that students can access learning confidently and communicate effectively.
-
Develop students’ cultural capital and personal development by embedding fundamental British values and promoting social, moral, spiritual and cultural understanding, empowering them to engage confidently, responsibly and respectfully within their community, modern Britain and the wider world.
-
Promote our core LORIC values of leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative and communication across the curriculum, with a strong emphasis on PSHE, CEIAG, character education and enrichment, to equip students with the skills and readiness needed for further education, employment and adult life.
