OUR AIMS

Up Holland High School offers students the opportunity to:

  • Explore 10 different sports over the year in blocks of 6 or 8 lessons in Year 7
  • Enrich the PE experience with additional variation and an element of choice of sports over the year in blocks of 6 or 8 lessons in Year 8
  • Embed and specialise in a chosen pathway of sports in blocks of 6 or 8 lessons in Year 9

 

 

YEAR 7 - EXPLORE

Learn and develop rolls, balances locomotion, jumps and turns
Learn to create & recreate movement sequences

Summer

Develop throwing and catching skills further
Learn and develop various batting and fielding skills
Develop an understanding of tactics and strategies
Explore various track and field techniques and competitions

YEAR 8 - ENRICH

Netball/Basketball
Rugby League
Football
Hockey


Rotation of individual activities:
Trampolining
Table Tennis
Sports Leadership

Enhance the skills of specific passing and receiving in more demanding situations
Develop the use and variety of challenging attack and defensive skills
Create, develop and implement team tactics


Enrich your Year 7 gymnastic experience through application of skills to trampolining
Further develop individual shots and serves and more advanced application of these
Develop the skills of communication, planning and delivery of short sporting sessions
 

Summer

Learning the skills of volleying, service laws and shot selection
Enrich the experience of striking and fielding performance through application of skills to more demanding practices and situations
Develop further shots and bowling/batting techniques
Further develop track and field skills with increased precision and accuracy

YEAR 9 - EMBED

Choice of 4 previously visited sports taught in half termly blocks:

Trampolining
Gymnastics

Embed the skills of attacking and defending to include more difficult skills and techniques
Develop team tactics and strategies with the use of set plays and formations
Learn advanced skills with creativity and playmaking
Develop accuracy and precision with all skills learned
Develop more advanced trampoline rotations and combinations
Develop floorwork sequence composition
Develop rhythmic gymnastics skills to include ball, ribbon and rope
Develop an understanding of the body’s response to exercise, safe working in the Fitness & Wellbeing Centre and the development of personalised fitness workouts

Summer

All students:
Athletics
Outdoor Education

Introduce the skills of the smash and slice and develop the use of doubles games
Further develop variation in bowling techniques and the addition of more base positional play

Increased complexity of skills across all track and field activities and competition
Develop map reading skills and engage in orienteering competitions. Develop navigational skills with a compass – taking and following bearings

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES

  • Inclusive lunchtime and after school clubs in the following activities: Football, Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Dance, Table Tennis, Basketball, Trampolining, Athletics, Rounders, Tennis, Cricket, Volleyball, Fitness
  • Previously organised trips & visits: European/ USA Ski Trip, Chill Factor Trip, Outdoor & Adventurous Activities residential visits to the Lake District, Rock n River trip.
  • Live sporting events previously attended: Olympic Games, Super league netball games, Netball World Cup, Wigan Athletic games, Gymnastics World Championships
  • Focus areas:  Inter-house competition weeks, Whole school Olympic week, Fit Fridays, Inclusion competitions
  • Annual entry into West Lancs PE Association calendar of events including netball, football, table tennis, Sportshall Athletics, athletics, rounders, cricket, SEND events, swimming
  • Entry into Wigan Hockey League events
  • Entry into St.Helens Rugby League competitions
  • Opportunities to gain accreditation in leadership activities through the Leadership Academy Award Scheme.
