EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

We are committed to equality of opportunity and to the promotion of good relations between all people, respecting their age, disability, gender, race, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation.

In order to achieve this we will:

  • Develop the values, attitudes and skills necessary to respect diversity and difference.
  • Recognise and celebrate the skills and talents of all children and young people and help them to participate fully in society and to realise their unique potential.
  • Create an open and welcoming environment in which all members of the community are valued and empowered to take responsibility and make a positive contribution.
  • Show zero tolerence towards inappropriate language or behaviour and challenge all forms of prejudice and discrimination, including racism, disablism, Islamophobia, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, anti-Semitism, sexism and ageism.
  • Consult and involve children and young people in decision making.
  • Have systems in place for checking that we are treating everyone fairly.

Vison:

As a school we are fully dedicated to developing resilience, tolerance and character, eliminating discrimination and harassment and fostering good relations through effective communication between pupils, staff and the wider community. We are dedicated to ensuring that the needs of all of our pupils and their families are met, that all pupils experience equal opportunity and take full advantage and participation in all opportunities we can provide for them, removing barriers that may arise.

We are currently working towards the Lancashire Equality Mark Award. The Lancashire Equality Mark is awarded to schools who have taken measures to embed Equality throughout their practice with the goal of enabling all pupils to thrive in a supportive learning community. We have successfully achieved our Sex Equality and Sexual Orientation certificates and are currently working toward the remaining badges. We aim to achieve all badges on the award by 2024.
